Susan grew up in the rural northern NY towns of Naumburg and Lowville, after moving from the Philadelphia area at the age of 8. There she developed a profound love of nature, animals, and an understanding of the interconnection of all living and nonliving things we call Earth.
Of Quaker upbringing, she became involved in the peace movement against the Viet Nam war. And firmly believes that war in never the answer. She obtained her BA in philosophy at the State University at Buffalo. And later obtained her BSN in nursing at NYU.
Concerned over the growing number of patients admitted for autoimmune diseases, she researched the harmful effects of raising and consuming genetically modified organisms. Studies by independent scientists show a direct link between eating GMO's and autoimmune diseases, many that are progressive debilitating diseases ending in death.
A lover of science fiction, she wrote her first novel against genetic engineering after retiring from the neurology unit at NYU Tisch Hospital. Although the novel is a light hearted spoof it touches upon some of the serious concerns surrounding growing and consuming GMO foods.
